EARBY Springfield School’s girls' Kwik Cricket team have been crowned 2019 Lancashire County champions.

The ECB’s Kwik Cricket competition is a fully inclusive game where the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment.

It is open to primary schools throughout England and Wales. Each team has eight players and bats for eight overs.

Teams from throughout Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester represented their area at the County Final in Liverpool in early July.

Following their success in local competitions, the Earby team represented Pendle.

They were undefeated in all their round matches and progressed to the semi-finals, and another convincing victory sealed their place in the final.

This was a tougher competition against a formidable opposition, representing the Liverpool area, but they battled through to become county champions.

Headteacher Dawn Liversidge said: "The team have been county runners-up previously, but this is the first time they have been county champions. There were over 750 teams in the competition so this is a fantastic achievement. Their practice and dedication has paid off."
