CRAVEN-based British Sport Karate Federation (BSKF) took 16 athletes to the English National Karate Championships and came away with 12 medals.

The English National championships were held over two days at Ponds Forge in Sheffield with elite athletes competing from all around England, who all must be brown belt and above.

All athletes from the club performed incredible and in a very tough competition BSKF came home with an English Champion.

Emily Moran, who attends Sutton CP school, fought four strong rounds to be crowned English champion in her section girls 10-11 years -40kg. She also gained a bronze medal in her girls 10-11 team fight with partner Mahek Khuram who lives in Keighley.

Harvey Osborne who attends Kildwick CofE school came away with a bronze medal in his individual fight in section boys 10-11 +40kg, he then went on to fight in the boys 10-11 team event with Zakariyah Shan also from Kildwick school and the came away with a bronze medals.

Troy Darnbrough who attends craven college gained 2 bronze medals one for the category male 16-17 -76kg and one in male 16-17 open weight.

Others medals came from Yasin Ahmed who came away with bronze. Pan Loizides silver and bronze, Poppy santon bronze and Lewis hunt silver.

All athletes from British Sport Karate Federation train at NCAA in Silsden and Quest Karate in Skipton.

* In other karate news, Haris Ishtiaq, a student who attends a karate class at Greatwood Community Centre in Skipton, won a medal in his very first competition, taking bronze in the under-8s at the Bismillah Karate Championships at Haworth in early July.

The championships see students from across Yorkshire compete in a various classes and categories.

Club instructor Amjid Hussain runs karate classes at Greatwood Community Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.45pm to 7pm, for children aged five years and over.
