SKIPTON RFC hosted their fifth annual "Skiptens" Tens' Tournament on Saturday.

Club spokesman Simon Smith said: "The day was a great success despite the awful weather conditions and allowed all the players to get some rugby under their belts in readiness for the forthcoming season."

Six teams took part in the competition which was played in a "round robin" format.

The teams taking part were Bradford & Bingley, Baildon, Keighley, Skipton, Cleckheaton and Nomads, a team made of Skipton second team players and their friends and colleagues.

Bradford & Bingley topped the table, Baildon came second and Keighley was third. Skipton finished fourth, Nomads were fifth and Cleckheaton came sixth.

Smith said pre-season preparations are well under way and Skipton are currently in discussions to sign three New Zealand players.

Skipton will play North Ribblesdale in a pre-season friendly at 6.30pm this Thursday at Sandylands and then they will host Burnley in another friendly at home at 3pm on Saturday.
