SKIPTON Golf Club’s scratch team won their final game of the season to secure their place in the top flight.

The team went into the final Bradford Scratch League match away at Baildon knowing that at least two points were needed to ensure survival in the top flight.

The re-arranged match, which had been cancelled from the previous week due to the bad weather, was played in conditions not much better that tested the mettle of all the golfers.

The team of Chris Payne, Harry Ayrton and Max Berrisford gave their all, but with both Payne and Ayrton losing it was left to the current reigning Yorkshire Matchplay champion, Berrisford, to try to salvage the two points needed by winning his match.

Despite a few scares along the way he triumphed comfortably in the end winning 4&3.

So tight was the First Division that those two points pushed the Skipton outfit into third in the table to crown a highly successful season for the scratch team, having already climbed the Yorkshire team ladder from the Sixth Division to the Third.
