STEETON crashed to a 1-0 home defeat to Cleator Moor Celtic in the North West Counties League Division One North.

The Chevrons were given an early left-off when Celtic's Darren Little was brought down by Steeton's Elliot Scott in the penalty box in the seventh minute.

But Steeton goalkeeper Fletcher Paley guessed the right way to keep out Tom Mahone's spot kick.

But Mahone would redeem himself in the 24th minute as he grabbed the contest's only goal. Celtic's Callum Birdsall squared the ball to Mahone who made up for his penalty miss by smashing the ball past Paley.

Steeton produced a good attacking spell at the start of last night's clash at Cougar Park but couldn't find the breakthrough.

One chance saw Ben Clarkson work his way into space before unleashing a shot which is parried by Celtic keeper Craig Devine and Tom Goodall fired the rebound wide.

Mahone was denied the chance to double his goal tally on the hour when his goal was disallowed due to a foul on Paley in the move's build-up.
