THERE was some fierce competition over the weekend at Settle Golf Club with members keen to get their hands on the Memorial Trophy.
However, it turned out to be something of a walkover for former club captain Chris Ward, who proved to be the only player on the day able to cope with the difficult playing conditions.
Ward put together an almost unblemished round, coming home with 35 stableford points, nine points better than his nearest rival Peter Morton.
