A BRILLIANT innings by Girvacques De Jager led Earby to a five-wicket victory over promotion rivals Ribblesdale Wanderers on Saturday.

Earby are now just one point behind the Wanderers for the second and promotion from Section B of the Ribblesdale League's Senior Division.

The Wanderers scored a solid 173-8 in their 45 overs, as Jovaun Van Wyngaardt took 4-60 for Earby.

De Jager led the Earby reply, hitting five fours and six sixes off 99 balls in a magnificent knock of 87no as Earby surpassed their target in the 40th over.

Barnoldswick, who will be promoted as champions of Section B, suffered a humiliating nine-wicket defeat at Read.

Read opening bowlers Luke Jongwe (4-21) and Luke Powell (2-11) ripped through Barlick's top and middle order, taking four ducks, including Majid Inayat, Jack Rietschel and Chalana De Silva, who have scored big runs for the West Craven side. In the end, Barnoldswick were skittled out for just 68.

Read, led by skipper Matthew Walker's knock of 40no, knocked off the runs in just nine overs.

Settle, who had wrapped up winning the league last week, also suffered a heavy defeat against Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.

Oswaldtwistle scored 131-9 in their 45 overs, but in reply Settle were skittled out for 64 in 34.3 overs.

In the final weekend of the season this Saturday, Earby will host Baxenden, Barnoldswick travel to Feniscowles and Settle will play Salesbury at Marshfield.
