BARNOLDSWICK Town got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory Litherland REMYCA at Silentnight Stadium on Saturday.

Zack Dale put the home team up 1-0 with a great finish after 22 minutes and then a Litherland own goal made it 2-0 in the 34th minute.

"The 2-0 win was comfortable for us, however it could have been far more if we had not been so wasteful in the final third," said Barnoldswick Town manager Matt Barnes, who added that the victory was vital following the club's 3-0 defeat at Hanley Town the previous week. "After last Saturday, it was really important for us to get three points on the board."

The match also provided Barnoldswick with the chance to give debuts to their two new signings.

Udoka Chima, a prospect who is currently in the middle of a two-year scholarship with Burnley FC, was in the starting line-up. He had played a few games with Steeton AFC earlier this season.

Front man Samuel Amankwaa, who joined from Wythenshawe AFC and previously played at Oldham Athletic, came on as a substitute.

"Sam was a handful up top," said Barnes. "He's an unconventional player, but it was important to get him on the pitch and get him some minutes."

Although the victory was good news for Town, they did get a scare when Dale had to limp off the pitch.

"It was precautionary with Zack," said Barnes. "He was out a long time with a hamstring injury and we didn't want to push him when we were 2-0 up.

"We've got a lot of important games coming up, and no lies, Zack is an important player for us, so we've got to look after him."

Barnoldswick were scheduled to play at Bootle on Tuesday, but the match had to be postponed as Bootle were involved in a cup match.

Town are back in action this Saturday when they host Whitchurch Alport at Silentnight Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm.
