BARNOLDSWICK Town came up with a big 5-0 win at Abbey Hey in the first round of the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday.

It was Barnoldswick's first game since the departure of manager Matt Barnes during the week.

After some early pressure from Town forced a corner, Abbey Hey produced a chance five minutes but a good save from keeper Ryan Livesey denied the hosts.

Barnoldswick made them pay after 10 minutes when a towering header by Shaun Airey put the visitors 1-0 up.

Five minutes later, Ric Seear beat an offside trap and was through one-on-one with the keeper, who made a good save to deny the Town striker.

With 22 minutes gone, Joe Noblett chipped a free-kick into the box but Town were unable to capitalise.

Three minutes later, Seear had another chance when the keeper came off his line and Seear went inches past the post.

Zack Dale then stumbled, but kept his feet and took a shot at goal after 29 minutes, but his effort was cleared off the line.

With just less than 10 minutes before the break, Abbey Hey had their best chance but they were denied by a fantastic save from Livesey.

Three minutes before half-time, Abbey Hey's Joshua Dickin saw red when he brought down Zack Dale when he was through on goal.

Barlick then capitalised three minutes into added time when Dale sent a cross in to Seear, who made no mistake to put the visitors 2-0 up at half-time.

Four minutes into the second half, a great cross went into the Town box, but it evaded everyone and the score remained 2-0.

Great work by Joe Noblet then set up another great chance for Barlick, but the visitors were could not capitalise.

On 65 minutes, Dale went through on goal and put the ball in the back of the net to put Town 3-0 up.

A short time later, new signing Sam Amankwaa came on for Dale and then Seear put the visitors 4-0 up with just 10 minutes to play.

Barnoldswick youngster Jordan Slade then came on to replace Alex Ralph in the 81st minute.

Amankwaa then made his presence felt when he latched on to a cross from Ash Brierley. Unfortunately, Amankwaa's effort went just wide.

On 90 minutes, great battling by Kasom Shah set up Noblet, whose finish went into the bottom corner of the net.

Barnoldswick's travelling support, the Sewer Army, who were in great voice throughout, then awarded Shah with the man-of-the-match accolades.

The win sees Barnoldswick Town through to the second round of the FA Vase, when they play at Stockton Town at 3pm on Saturday, November 2.

Town's next game will see them travel to Bootle for a league match at 7.45pm tomorrow before an away match with Northwich Victoria in the first round of the Macron Cup this Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
