CRAVEN Bowling Club was the setting for the ‘Dementia Friendly Skipton’ one-day bowling competition which saw 40 top crown green bowlers vying for a share of the £500 prize money.

After six hours play, the quarter-finals saw Luke Teale (Guiseley) defeat Andrew Gallagher (Luddendenfoot) 21-13, Richard Hargreaves (Cross Roads) overcome Jon Edmondson (Pudsey) 21-14, James Teale (Rufford) beat Andy Raymond (Manchester) 21-15 and Mark Holden (Burnley) win 21-14 against Danny Teale (Rufford).

In the first semi-final, Luke Teale took on Hargreaves and it was 10-10 after 15 ends, but Teale took the next five ends to go 16-10 and despite a bit of a fightback from Hargreaves the Guiseley player took the honours 21-17.

Semi-final two saw James Teale and Mark Holden in opposition and it was the Lancastrian who took the early initiative to lead 6-1, however, Teale fought back to win eight of the next 10 ends to lead 14-9.

In a game of fluctuating fortunes, Holden had the better of the latter stages and eventually booked his place in the final 21-17.

Having disposed of James in the semi, Holden took on Luke Teale in the final and it proved to be an epic struggle under the floodlights.

Holden led 12-5 after 13 ends, but Teale rallied to within one point only to see Holden move ahead again 19-15.

Teale again rallied to make the score 20-20 with jack in hand, but he couldn’t prevent the Holden snatching the deciding end to win 21-20 and collect the £200 first prize.

Luke Teale picked up £100 for his efforts, while the semi-finalists each received £50 and the losing quarters picked up £25 each.

Natalie and Stuart Cracknell, representing Dementia Friendly Skipton, presented the prizes and Natalie thanked all the local businesses who had contributed raffle prizes helping them to raise over £300 on the day and enabling them to carry on their work in providing events for local families affected by dementia.
