WHARFEDALE RUFC topped of the list of the Telegraph's Best Places to Watch Sport in the UK and Ireland in 2019.

The Telegraph writers picked their favourite places to go and watch sport, explaining why they love them.

The list included 10 rugby stadiums, most of which are home grounds for much larger clubs.

In the article, Wharfedale Rugby Club, which came first, was described as a place where "you can retreat to a proper clubhouse after the game, the mud washed off, the cold sting turning slowly to a ruddy glow amid the warm, welcoming thrum around the bar, where a pint of Tetley’s slips down as naturally as the waterfalls in the surrounding hills."

Coming second on the list was Headingley, Leeds, followed by Principality Stadium, Cardiff; Cardiff Arms Park; Kingsholm, Gloucester; Thomond Park, Limerick; Welford Road, Leicester; The Rec, Bath; The Greenyards, Melrose; and Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

After the Christmas break, Wharfedale return to action this Saturday when they travel to Lancashire to take on Fylde, who are second in the National League Two North.

The match kicks off at 3pm.
