THE second Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club's championship trial at Dob Park, Otley, on Sunday was more like a reunion trial for world championship winners, star road racers and commentator and sidecar trials championship multi winners plus potential future trials champions.

Silsden's Dougie Lampkin planted his Vertigo at the top of the 13 hard route contenders, dropping one mark in section 10 where Mick Shorrock recorded three cleans from the Vertigo maestro and a fiery attack by Louis Haley on lap two beating the muddy rocks and the narrow green slimed beck.

Dan Hemingway managed to take a dab on two occasions while son Harry and George legged it twice and stopped twice.

Apart from those names the rest of the hard course contenders stopped apart from clerk of course Danny Cockshott, who used Montesa and leg power on lap one. Cockshott plotted the entire trial in Dob Park with the east end stream and the quarry being the main features.

The vertical flight up the south wall of the ninth section was awesome, as 50/50 contender Paul Gravestock found out the hard way when his Scorpa faltered in the final yard.

He managed to hang on and turn the machine sideways across the nigh vertical wall and ride it down and out and managed to stay on it. Save of the day.

Class winner Anthony Ayrton of Barnoldswick required no demand of a save as he shot up the incline on his 315 powered Montesa 4rt.

In terms of marks, only Darren Gill was a threat on the big climb. Grassington motor engineer John Maxfield topped the 48 clubman riders to win the class and also the top Over 50s from James Noble and Neil Gaunt.

In terms of big names, Yrjo Vesterinen was sixth on his Bantam and as polished as he was in his heyday.

Sidecar trials multi champion Robin Luscombe was 11th, five places ahead of Mick Grant while former racer and top Eurosport television commentator James Whitham was further down the order after some discussion with observer Brian Ayrton about an alleged dab in section nine.

While the action was happening in Dob, Sean Fletcher had dropped in at 8am on Sunday and flagged six small wheels sections at the top of Brown's Wood for 14 youngsters.

The leaf mould was slippery under surface, which demanded soft throttle action which was right for the four Beta riders but tricky for the Oset brigade.

On the hard route, Alfie Carney was the class act from Jamie Graeme and Ruby Lawrie. Koby Smith ran away with the middle-route with Alfie Drachenberg and Josh Dent.

The Bradford Motor Club headed for remote Lumb Waterfall at Cowling on Saturday afternoon where 41 competitors enjoyed mild conditions in what was the second event this year in this year's series.

Three classes rode an eight section four lap event featuring five sections below the waterfall which was user friendly so the opening stream sections were slippery in many areas Mason Carter's score card at section one was mild and registered only five failures on the hard route while only one stop was marked in the 50/50 and beginners route.

Richard Pearson and Ryan Crowder got round the hard sections on three apiece so the most cleans yielded a winner. The lower classes followed the pattern with low scores in general.Karl Smith won the 50/50 from a determined Leonni Tighe with Richard Giles and David Carr cleaning on every lap. Miss Tighe settled second place with three cleans on the final section and Karl Smith went one better with four faultless rides.

Vernon Clarke nailed the Beginners with a dab to spare over Richard Whitaker with Steve Ellis a clear third.

Anthony Ayrton and his stalwarts plotted the course, and cleared after the event.
