MORE than 30 youngsters from Skipton Swimming Club took to the water to compete in the prestigious Yorkshire Swimming Championships, held over three weekends at John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds and Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Leading the way with the medals tally was 13-year-old Jack Jenkinson. Jenkinson became Yorkshire county champion in the 200 and 400 freestyle and took silver medals in 100 free, 100 and 200 fly, 50 breaststroke, 200 and 400 Individual medley.

He also received bronze medals in 100 breaststroke and 50 fly. He also made the finals in all of his other races over the three weekends.

Club captain Paige Fenton became Yorkshire county champion in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke and gained a number of top 10 positions.

Club captain Ned Sharp took silver in the 100 fly, bronze in the 50 and 200 free and was fourth in the 200 fly and 200 IM. He also had other top ten positions.

Keelan Behan was in fine form at the sprints and finished as Yorkshire champion in the 50 breaststroke. He took silver in the 50 fly and made the finals in other events.

Sam Smith gained two bronze medals in the 100 fly and freestyle and picked up fourth place in the 200 free, 200 IM and 50 free. He had six other top 10 positions.

Harvey Pennington clinched bronze in the 200 free with a very close fourth place in the 400 and 100 free. He also had three other top 10 positions.

Archie Minto was bronze medalist in the 200 IM and was a multi finalist.

Eleven-year-old Poppy Dunne took bronze in the 100 freestyle and had six other 10 positions.

Madison Turner swam to bronze in the 50 breaststroke and finished with four top 10 positions.

Other Skipton top 10 finalists were Harry Cockburn, Charlotte Leigh, Zak Sheriff, Joe Burgess, Roan Sherriff, Ethan Camsey, James West, Katie Simpson, Will Oliver, Kaye Fenton and Fennella Turner.

New qualifiers took to the water, gaining a coveted place on the Skipton squad, including Archie Appleby, Ruby Byrne, Stanley Dunne, Max Shillito and Rita Box.

They swam at the championships alongside teammates Amelia Redfearn Charlotte Kenneth, Lily Pratt, Maisie Dunne, Rowan Box, Saoirse Behan, Will Oliver, Zeb Heyes and Abbie Hampshire.

Skipton Swimming Club chairman Lesley Adamson said: “I am pleased with the early season form our swimmers have shown at these Championships and I am looking forward to more success.”
