Pudsey Congs to play Bradford & Bingley on finals day

The Saints went into the match as Pool A leaders and favourites to make the last four, but their hopes were destroyed when Congs dismissed them for just 71 and knocked off the runs to win by six wickets.

James Smith (27) was the only batsman to make double figures as the Congs bowlers prospered. Sam Wasniewski (3-11), Rishi Chopra (3-11) and Jacob Slator (3-2) did the damage. Slator (21) and Chopra (20no) ensured that Congs cashed in on the work of their bowlers.

They bagged 20 points which meant New Farnley – whose match started an hour later - had to secure a maximum points from their clash with East Bierley to finish level and force top spot in Pool One to be decided by subtracting runs conceded from runs scored in each teams three matches.

But, New Farnley’s hopes disappeared when they only claimed seven East Bierley wickets. It meant they were only able to bag 18 points for their comfortable nine-wicket victory over. They romped past East Bierley’s score of 107-7 in just 10.4 overs. Skipper Lee Goddard smashed an unbeaten 52 from 24 balls, while Dan Hodgson hit 42.

Townville secured their place at finals day by defeating Ossett by 64 runs to complete their Pool Four programme with three wins.

Harry Warwick took his tally of runs to 208 from three innings with 65 as Townville made 160-5 before dismissing Ossett for 96. Conor Harvey destroyed the Ossett innings with 5-18.

Methley recorded their first win when they beat Carlton by 31 runs but they still finished bottom of Pool Four.

Opener Alex Cree (51) got the innings off to a good start but it was Jonathan Read’s 51 from 24 balls which increased the tempo and boosted the score to 176-6. Carlton, who finished second in the pool, made 145-5 in reply.

In the semi-finals, Pudsey Congs will play Bradford & Bingley while Townville will face either Birstall or Hanging Heaton who meet next Sunday.
