THE fourth week of the West Riding County Women's Football League Invitational Cup saw well-deserved victories for Brighouse Sports, Ilkley Town and Silsden.
Brighouse were on point from the very start at Lower Hopton, and were 3-0 up at half-time.
Kennedy Power, who has recently returned to the side, confidently converted a penalty.
Sarah Hemingway then charged towards the box and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom corner, before Leanne Smith’s 30-yard free-kick soared into the net.
Hopton captain Ashley Hinds’ brace led to a tense finale, but Brighouse’s defence held firm for the 3-2 win.
Ilkley and Harrogate Railway had no clear chances in a strange first period, but a Railway clearance hit their own player and got a bizarre deflection into the net for the Baht’atters’ first goal.
Railway increased the pressure, but were well beaten by Ilkley in the end, 4-1 the final score.
Silsden started their game on the front foot. However, it was visitors Skipton Town who took a half-time lead after a mix-up at the back let Emily Throup slot past an outstretched Rebecca Seward.
The second half saw some good football on display from both teams.
Megan Robson-Owens’ equaliser was followed by a great cross from left wing-back Becca Brown that resulted in a Skipton own-goal, before Bethany ‘Bob’ Gaines scored a superb header from a corner to make it 3-1.
Silsden captain Sophie Fagan-Gaines and Skipton skipper Alex Heyworth both traded late penalties to make the final score 4-2.
Queensbury Celtic and Castleford White Rose were both hoping for a win to keep their Yorkshire Under-18 Girls League Division Two South title hopes alive.
In a competitive match, visiting Castleford had a 3-1 advantage at the break after two own-goals and a penalty.
Queensbury missed a penalty of their own but Katie Waters netted an instinctive shot from the rebound to get her side on the scoreboard.
Shoanna Clark then made it 3-2, leading to an exciting second half as Queensbury man of the match Emily McKinley made a number of exceptional saves.
Queensbury threw everything at the visitors too, but a late counter-attack led to Cas scoring a last-minute tap-in.
Guiseley competed their league fixtures with a 6-1 victory at rock-bottom Skipton.
Thackley played a friendly with Burley Trojans, and the latter's clinical finishing was the difference as they won 4-1.
Bradford City's Women visit Chorley for a behind closed doors friendly this Sunday, while Brighouse Town host the Sheffield United Women's development side.
That encounter at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium this weekend is also behind closed doors.
