GLUSBURN won the only completed first-round Cowling Cup tie on Sunday, defeating hosts Thornton-in-Craven by four wickets in a T20 contest.

Irfan Khaliq (3-10) took early wickets to put the home side on the back foot, and they only topped three figures thanks to Mark (13) and Jack Laycock (48), who were the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Abrar Sarwar (3-21) and Steve Brown (2-22) ensured that the home side only posted 106-8, but the visitors also struggled early doors against Jack Laycock (2-28) and Ian Holden (2-14).

However, they were rescued by Zaheer Abbas (15), Mark Desgranges (12) but particularly by Matt Lloyd, who made 50 not out batting at No 5.

The upshot was that Glusburn II won with 13 balls to spare to book a second-round tie on Sunday, June 13 against the winners of Haworth II and Denholme II.

That was one of three first-round matches that should have been played on Sunday.

It has been re-scheduled for this Sunday at Denholme as Haworth’s ground is not available.

Also playing this Sunday are Riddlesden and Bingley Congs III for the right to face Bingley Congs II.
