ON Sunday, the Skipton Roses looked to continue their winning ways with a league fixture against Yarnbury Ladies.

The Roses got off to a flying start. They were awarded a lineout seven metres from the Yarnbury tryline and the call was given for them to set up a maul. Unfortunately this didn’t work but the Roses kept possession and after strong carries from Sarah Pate and Eleanor Mann taking the ball in field and just short of the tryline, Second row Sally Plum was able to get herself over the line to put the Roses on the scoreboard. Centre Kerys Hey missed the conversion. From the restart Yarnbury quickly got into the game. Their forwards carried strong, getting over the gainline, which kept them making ground and it wasn’t long before they got on the scoresheet. Adding the two to take it to 7-5.

An error then led to a further try for Yarnbury. The conversion was missed. 12-5 in favour of Yarnbury.

As the half came to a close, Yarnbury scored again bringing the half time score to 17-5.

Into the second half and from a goal line dropout , Yarnbury picked up the ball on the 22 and with more strong running from their forwards scored their fourth try of the game. The conversion was added and Yarnbury went 24- 5 up. The Roses regrouped and from clever play by their number eight Pate, she was able intercept a pass from the scrum half and took play into the Yarnbury half, quick recycling and the Roses put the ball down the backline, with Schepisi passing to Hey, who drew the player and passed to follow centre Jennie Hoggatt, who was able to get round the chasing defenders and scored out wide. Hey missed the conversion.

Time was running out for the Roses and as they pushed to get more points on the scoreboard and with tired bodies, an error in midfield allowed their player to find space and score out wide, taking their lead to 29- 10. The conversion was missed and the referee blow for full time.
