SKIPTON took the Waterfall Tournament Tier Three Group under 16's Yorkshire Cup with a very convincing display, going 24-0 up by half-time.

Number 8 Joe Hayes opened the scoring for Skipton with a try under the posts after seven minutes following a quick tap penalty by scrum-half Michael Tam. Skipper Ed Whitlam added the extra points. Joe's father, Declan Hayes, one of the Skipton Under 16's Coaches, scored for Skipton on the last occasion they won a Yorkshire cup final, the Silver Trophy final against Knottingley in April 2000.

Skipton then withstood a sustained period of pressure from Cleckheaton, holding out on their own line, but then a stripped ball in the tackle by Will Havers-Strong saw quick hands find full-back Luther Hall who stepped on the gas to go over for Skipton's second try. Skipton then began to dominate the first half and Hall doubled his tally with pace that the opposition couldn't handle.

A fourth try came just before the break with swift hands down the back line creating a gap for Whitlam to score just left of the posts.

Cleckheaton worked hard after the break to secure two tries of their own, one of which was converted. The Skipton defence then held firm and in the closing minutes Whitlam used a cross field kick to find Reuben Johnson on the left wing, who gathered the bouncing ball to secure victory for Skipton and a standing ovation from the jubilant home crowd.
