SUTTON have breathed new life into their survival bid in Mewies Solicitors Craven League Division One with a five-wicket victory at Denholme.

The home side won the toss but only made 96, with George Elrick taking 3-14, Sachin Abraham 3-45 and Daniel Hanson 2-12.

Sutton must have been fearing the worst when they were 16-3, but skipper David Snowden (32) and Craig Thornton (23no) kept calm to help them triumph.

The match between Cowling and Haworth was even more one-sided, with the hosts putting in 10-man Cowling and dismissing them for 73, with captain Steve Dalby making 23 and Junaid Gullnawaz 17 as Cowling collapsed from 63-3.

Haworth then lost skipper James Roper to the first ball after tea, but won by nine wickets in 17.2 overs.

Gargrave are third on 149 points after winning by eight wickets at Barrowford, who chose to bat but could only make 127, with Ben Howlett bagging 3-25, Harry McEneaney 3-37 and Joe Wood 2-19.

Opener John Beckwith (51no) then guided Gargrave to their win, alongside keeper James Freebury (57no) as Barrowford used eight bowlers in vain.

In Division Two, Silsden continued their march towards a potential promotion with victory.

They were at home to Bingley Congs II, who won the toss but were dismissed for 145. with Joshua Waind taking 4-46 and Ben Sugden 4-24.

Sugden then put his pads on and made 68, hitting 12 fours as the Cobbydalers won by four wickets in the 33rd over, with opener Robert Jones scoring 25.

Umar Farooq’s 76 for Glusburn proved in vain as they lost by five wickets at home to Barrowford II.

He hit 14 fours and a six, adding 52 for the sixth wicket with Irfan Khaliq (12) as Glusburn won the toss and made 171.

Barrowford took 30 overs to knock off the runs, despite Khaliq taking 3-44.

Bradley proved no match for visitors Skipton CI, who scored 182, with contributions from Paul Mason (23), Danny Smith (26), Aneesh Babu (34) and keeper Ian Henderson (23) as George Bell returned 3-30.

Bradley were then toppled for just 55, with only Mohammed Qadeer (19) and Bell (15) reaching double figures as Daanyal Iqbal took 4-21 and Irfan Bandshah 5-27.

In Division Three, Cononley’s promotion bid hit a bump in the road at Oakworth II.

Batting first, the second-placed club could only make 81, with David Turner (11), Herbie Starkey (22), captain Nathan Parker (16) and Willie Naylor (10) the only men into double figures.

Oakworth won by six wickets in the 28th over, with Starkey taking 2-27.

Leaders Thornton in Craven found Skipton CI II’s 132 easy meat at Sandylands.

Sean Williamson played a captain’s knock of 56 for CI, aided by John Stuttard (10), David Suter Jnr (17) and Sefal Allam (16), which was a recovery from 10-4.

Jack Laycock took 3-26 and Matt Bowker 3-32, and the latter then scored 24, playing a minor role as the leaders won by eight wickets in the 26th over, courtesy of an unbroken stand of 72 between opener Rob Foster (60no) and David Holt (40no).
