Only eight games survived the wintry weather that hit the Craven area on Friday and Saturday morning, the snow and frosty pitches leaving the Devonshire Carpets Craven League with an enormous backlog of fixtures.

The Craven District Association will be looking for favourable weather this weekend when the next round of matches are due to take place.

In the Northern Plant Hire Trophy the Ribble Valley derby needed extra time for WFC Clitheroe to defeat Chat-burn 2-1 while Keighley FC beat Waddington away by 5-4.

The only game in the Premier Division produced a glut of goals when the form book was turned upside down with Embsay recording only their third victory of the season with a 6-4 win at table toppers Cononley.

Debutant Steven Morphet was the match winner in an exciting encounter with four goals while Richard Hargreaves hit a hat-trick for the home side.

Despite losing 3-0 at the break Cononley had contributed much but had missed vital chances. However Embsay took any that came their way and soon increased the lead to 5-0 before Cononley staged a comback, scoring four goals including a speculative free-kick from Paul Cauvin to set up a nail-biting finish. Embsay's Stephen Speak secured the points following a goalmouth scramble.

Division One leaders Grindleton were beaten by AFC Padiham 2-3 while Carleton lost 3-0 at Long Lee Juniors.

The remaining games were in Division Two with a day to forget for Cononley Reserves who suffered an humiliating 12-1 defeat at Earby Town.

As the score suggests Earby were at their best playing good football on a sticky surface and running the entire game as the visitors tried manfully to stem the constant wave of Earby pressure.

The Oldroyd brothers, James and Paul, led the scoring with four each, with a brace from Jay Farrell and one each from Wayne and Gary Hooper.

Skipton LMS reserves lost 7-1 at Pendle Forest after a 1-1 half-time score, the home side with the wind at their backs scored six second half goals.

Grassington United Reserves won 4-1 at Embsay with Barney Newbould and Matthew Hall scoring two each before Neil Robinson pulled one back for the home team.
