PREPARATIONS for the new campaign continued for Barlick on Saturday afternoon as they played out a 1-1 draw with Colne at the Silentnight Stadium.

The local derby between the two sides was played out in soaring temperatures after the UK was hit with a heatwave over the last week.

For both sides, it was a chance to regain some fitness with the league campaign just around the corner, but both sides were in the mood to claim bragging rights.

It was Barnoldswick who had the first meaningful opportunity, with Gareth Hill looking to find the opener of the tie, but his right-footed shot rattled the bar.

Barlick continued to probe and took the ascendency towards the end of the first half, but after the interval it was the visitors who broke the deadlock.

On minute 55, after a great passage of play, Colne converted their chance expertly and it left the hosts with work to do.

However, Barlick drew level only two minutes later with an almost instant response; a lovely ball in by Alex Ralph from the left flank found trialist A, who stabbed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

The game ended level and the bragging rights were shared.
