Conditions for football were a complete contrast to last week's weather however several pitches still had not recovered, with games postponed and only the efforts of the home clubs ensuring fixtures went ahead.

In the Devonshire Carpets league games Skipton LMS defeated local rivals Skipton Town 4-1 while Cononley Sports stopped a run of defeats with a 1-1 draw at Clitheroe Lions. Bottom club Bradley lost again by a single goal to Waddington and a nine goal thriller ensued at Hellifield when the home side scraped home 5-4 against luckless Embsay.

The District Association cup games saw Grassington United and Gargrave progress to the semi-final stage of the Skipton Building Society Morrison Cup. In the Norman Pratt Trophy last year's beaten finalists Rimington Reserves knocked out Ingleton Reserves at the semi-final stage for the second successive year after a pulsating game.

Horton of the second division gave visitors Gargrave a shock when Ben Pilkington lobbed the keeper, however the scores were soon level when Paul Wilkin's cross went in off a post and further goals came from Matthew Simpson, Sam Watson and Nick Kendall to give the away side a commanding lead at the break.

On a difficult pitch and with the wind behind them Horton reduced the lead when Nick Cokell's glancing header found the net and with Horton upping the tempo a good hard game developed but the home side could not finish the chances that came their way and Gargrave through Tom Varey sealed the 5-2 victory. Credit to Horton for the team effort against Premier opposition.

Barnoldswick Barons, high flying in Division Three, were brought down to earth when premier team Grassington Utd rammed seven goals passed them without reply. Only one down at the break, Barons lost their discipline and conceded a further six goals with two hat-tricks from Adam Steventon and Jan Ozdoba adding to a strike from Nicholas Breckon.

Rimington just squeezed passed Ingleton with penalties required to separate the teams after the scores were locked at 2-2. The home side started the stronger and were soon leading only for Dan Rose to equalise with a strong header. After the break Ingleton came stronger and went in front when Jonathan Boadle scored. However in a game that swung from end to end Rimington drew level before Ingleton squandered a chance to win in the last minute of normal time. After extra time produced no goals the game went to penalties with Rimington progressing to the final with a 4-2 penalty score line. This game was a credit to both sides played in an excellent spirit and well refereed by Noel McEvoy.

Gargrave Reserves overcame last year's Norman Pratt winners Colne Utd Reserves with a convincing 5-0 win. An early goal from Alan Siddle settled the game but an injury to Colne player Mark McQuillan, who required hospital treatment, delayed the match for 15 minutes. On the restart Colne keeper Mark Young kept Gargrave at bay with some good saves and to their credit the depleted Colne side gave a good account of themselves before the home side took command in the second half. Joel Timmins scored a second successive hat-trick with the other goals coming from Ben Brown and Oliver Hurst.

The win earns the home side a tie against Kelbrook Reserves who won 3-1 at Embsay thanks to a Daniel Rowe hat-trick. Played in very muddy conditions, Embsay had the upper hand leading through Toby Capstick and failing to take further chances. Kelbrook levelled when Rowe scored from a free kick and he put his side in front from the penalty spot before completing his hat-trick and seeing an Embsay side already hit by injuries have a player dismissed with ten minutes left.

Gargrave Reserves and Kelbrook Reserves now play each other to decide Rimington's opponents in the final on Friday, April 18, at Settle United's ground.

Back to the league and a nine goal thriller ensued at Hellifield where the home side scraped home 5-4 against luckless Embsay.

In a pulsating tussle the winner coming with virtually the last kick of the game. The visitors had the early lead but goals from Carl Stanford and Ryan Preston put the home side ahead only for Embsay to draw level and Paul Mounsey's header gave Hellifield the lead at the break. The game continued in much the same vein in the second half each side cancelling each other out. After the scores were level Sam Gray gave Hellifield the lead and although Thomas Galloway made several good saves he could not prevent a fourth Embsay goal to set up the dramatic finish when Jamie Wright scored from close range in the last minute leaving Embsay feeling hard done to after contributing much to a exciting game.

In Division One Pendle Athletic are keeping the pressure up on leaders Grindleton who are separated only by goal difference, but Pendle have games in hand and must be favourites to take the championship at this stage.

In Division Two leaders Earby Town took on local rivals Pendle Renegades and a hard committed encounter resulted in Town winning comfortably 6-1. Ciaran Robinson gave Town a early lead and two penalties converted by James Oldroyd gave them a three goal cushion before Renegades reduced the lead, however with two minutes Joel Howard restored the three goal advantage. Only good saves from Paul Garner prevented Earby scoring but he was powerless to stop a deflected shot from his own players finding the net and the scoring was rounded off when James Oldroyd completed his hat-trick. Earby Town, going for a second successive promotion, now lead the table by seven points.

Skipton Town A head Division Three having played more games but scoring goals for fun with another 8-2 win at Oakworth. Settle Utd got back to league action winning 5-2 at Earby Town reserves.

In Division Three Skipton Town A were a happy team with a 8-2 demolition of Oakworth reserves. Town secured a 4-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from William Knight, Andy Cooke and Alex Brook (2). A early goal from Matthew Cavanagh set up a cruise for Town in the second half Knight claimed his second and sub Carl Osadzenko scored two further goals to give another good win for this very young team.
