IT was FA Vase disappointment for Barnoldswick Town at the weekend, as Horden Community Welfare FC edged the tie 2-1 to go through to the second round of the competition.

The game started in a tentative manner, with both teams trying to stamp their authority on proceedings, however, it would be the visitors Horden who had the first meaningful chance on minute 28.

Barnoldswick’s stopper Jordan Gidley was there to thwart the danger though, getting down low to tip a shot away from Barlick’s goal.

Then came a flurry of opportunities for the home side and would it be Andrew Hill at the centre of things; first firing a vicious shot off the underside of the bar before forcing Horden’s keeper into a save from a headed effort.

Gareth Hill was then to be denied, as his strike was cleared off the line from a set-piece situation.

Town would go on to rue their missed opportunities as the away side scored twice in the final ten minutes of the fixture; first with a looping header and they added a second on the break, their number 15 hitting a strike in off the crossbar.

Barlick did scramble one back at the death, however, it was too little, too late and their route to round three was over.
