BARNOLDSWICK’S underwhelming league campaign ended with a mediocre display as Andy Harrison’s side fell to a 4-0 defeat at Avro on Saturday, whose play-off spot was confirmed in the process.

Two goals in each half ensured the hosts had a comfortable afternoon while the visitors limped to their 21st loss of the league season, as Louis Potts, Micheal Afuye, Jamie Rother and Liam Ellis inflicted damage on the away side.

After a dominant start by the home side, they would soon be rewarded on minute 19 with Potts glancing a fine header into the far corner of the net after some brilliant wing work by Afuye who gave the away side nightmares all afternoon.

The speedster then turned goal scorer after driving through the heart of the visitors’ midfield before curling a sumptuous strike into the top left-hand corner from 25 yards out.

It didn’t take the hosts long to get into their stride after the interval with Rother striking his first goal for the club. The forward collected the ball before unleashing a powerful strike past Turner’s despairing left hand to give his side a well-deserved 3-0 lead.

Six minutes later, 59, Ellis poked him after a low driven cross way played into the box to round off a fantastic afternoon for the home side.

It will be a time to rest and recharge for Barnoldswick as they look to prepare for a much-improved campaign next time out, with a 19th placed finish well below their aspirations.
