TWO local women’s football teams were represented at the West Riding Girls’ League finals at Bodington Hub, where they were playing in their respective divisional League Shield finals.

Last Saturday, Bradford City’s u17s were playing Woodkirk Valley Oranges. The route to the final had seen good wins at home to Rothwell Juniors, Durkar Devils and Wetherby Athletic, all without conceding a single goal.

The first half saw City 5–0 up, featuring a Summer Paley hat-trick, the final result a 10–0 victory. Other goal-scorers were: player-of-the-match Aimee Myers (2), Sophie Martin, Kaitlyn Walker, Katie Jordan and Elsie Joyce (2).

Following this match, Ilkley Town’s u18s had a hard-fought battle with League champions Ossett United. The u18 Shield’s destination was only decided in the last few minutes, after Ilkley scored an 89th-minute winner.

Meanwhile, Ilkley Town’s u13 Lionesses have retained their Harrogate & Craven League title. The u13s haven’t lost a league game all season, scoring an impressive 79 goals and conceding just 11. Coach Russell Kennedy remarked: “we have a very talented squad of players who play exciting, attacking football, but it is the girls’ commitment, and will to win, that really stands out and makes them such a difficult side for teams to beat.”

Our local open-age teams may have completed their League games for the season, however some sides have been playing end-of-season friendlies.

Queensbury Celtic took a 21-man squad over to Lightcliffe to play Halifax Friendly in a Friday evening match.

Lucie Fieldhouse and Safa Qayyum were on target in a 2–2 draw, with Lily Mackrill named player of the match.

Bradford United were away to Tyersal. The 7–2 win included goals from Naomi Bernard, Amina Ali and a Bouthayna Fakraoui brace.

A reminder that if anyone is interested in playing for a team next season, please get in touch through the relevant club’s social media channels.

This Sunday sees the West Riding County League Finals Day, both games between teams from the Third Division and Premier.
