SILSDEN have made it through to the FA Vase second qualifying round after beating Newcastle Blue Star 2-1.

They will host Billingham Synthonia next month, as another North-East side make the trip down to the Office Interiors Stadium.

Kyle Trennery made a good early save to keep the Cobbydalers level, before the home side began to turn the screw.

Casey Stewart saw his effort saved before Jake Maltby’s goal from a low cross in was ruled out for offside.

Kayle Price, who had netted both goals in the excellent 2-1 Northern Counties East League Premier Division win over Campion a few days earlier, also went close with a fierce drive that whistled just past the post.

Silsden continued to push at the start of the second half and were rewarded with the opener on 54 minutes.

Ellis Hudson picked the ball up on the edge of the box, drove into the area, and crashed a shot into the roof of the net.

The Cobbydalers doubled their lead a quarter of an hour later, as a deflected strike fell to Stewart, who worked the ball on to his right foot and curled a fine strike into the bottom corner.

Harry Thompson and Stewart were denied by a superb double save from the Blue Star keeper late on, and a loss of concentration from Silsden saw the visitors halve the deficit late on.

But there were no further scares, as the Cobbydalers booked their spot in the next round.
