SKIPTON have fallen to second from bottom in Division Two of the Aire-Wharfe League after a heavy defeat.

They won the toss and batted at second-placed Kirkstall Educational, but made a disappointing 139.

Only four visiting batters reached double figures - skipper Gary Owens (39), Finlay Walker (25), Adam Harding (17) and Noah Kennedy (14) - but that total was higher than seemed likely when they were 17-4.

The experienced Owens then put on 67 with Harding.

Kirkstall reached their target without loss inside 19 overs after tea.

Steeton will be glad just to survive in the Premier Division as they sit third from bottom on 48 points, eight points ahead of Tong Park Esholt, who are in the second relegation berth.

Horsforth Hall Park chose to bat and made 208-9, which was more than seemed likely when they were 128-8, only for the ninth wicket to add 77.

Steeton’s overseas player Tremaine Dowrich bowled superbly to take 5-24 off his 15 overs, Paul Qiuinlan chipping in with 3-65.

However, the visitors’ batting then failed as they were back in the pavilion for just 79, although they did resist into the 36th over.

Opener Craig Walton top-scored with 18, skipper Steve Pearson (16) and Max Harrison (11) also reaching double figures.
