Only four matches were possible in the pre-Christmas round of Craven FA District Cup ties one of which was reported last week when Barnoldswick Town second string eased through against a depleted Gargrave side in the Smart & Cook Craven Challenge Cup.

The Skipton LMS v Cononley and Rimington v Pendle Athletic ties were victims of the heavy rain that fell the previous day while Skipton Town’s trip to Sedbergh of the Westmoreland League resulted in a heavy 9-3 defeat following a previous 3-3 draw.

Playing with a young, inexperienced side Town were three down in 20 minutes and half-time arrived at five goals down. Town played better in the second-half but Sedbergh were deadly |with their finishing scoring a further two before William Knight converted a penalty to get Town on the scoresheet.

However, the home side increased their score to nine before Town who, to their credit kept trying, were rewarded with another Knight goal. A good move from defence to attack resulted in Richard Martin scoring with a good header. Both sides commented on referee Peter Owen having a good game.

Bradley entertained Colne United and it was the visitors who started the stronger with plenty of possession without creating chances. Bradley had missed chances before Colne scored a good goal and they went on to take a three goal lead by the break.

The home side had plenty of the play in the second-half putting in plenty of effort but it was Colne who increased their lead with two further goals before Scott McCreadie got a late consolation. Colne now face a trip to Sedbergh in the next round.

In the only Norman Pratt trophy game it was a good day for Sedbergh when their young reserve side went to Barnoldswick Barons and came away with a 5-1 win. Paul Crabtree of the home side stepped in to referee the game at the last minute and did a good job in a game that was played in good sporting spirit.

Antonio Sarchet scored the lone home goal. The winners now entertain Rolls Royce Reserves in the next round.

The Morrison Cup draw can now be made to be played on Saturday, January 17.

On Sunday, January 11, the Craven FA Minor Cup team will entertain Wharfedale FA at Bentham FC, kicking-off 1pm.

It will be the first time this venue has been used since alterations to the dressing rooms and relaying of the pitch a couple of years ago and the Craven FA are hopeful of a good attendance in the Centenary year.
