THE Keighley Albion Blacks Under-14s had a super Saturday, edging their Yorkshire Juniors Division Two clash with Thornhill Trojans 10-4.
The kicking from both sides was good from the outset but there were a number of early handling errors, as the game started off at a slow pace.
But the breakthrough finally came when Brody Leach scored a corker on the right edge after it went through several pairs of hands. The conversion by Sam Wild made it 6-0 to Albion.
But Thornhill hit back almost immediately with a try of their own in the corner, bringing the score to 6-4 at half-time.
The second half was another tough no-nonsense affair, full of great defending.
But Charlie Savage, who was introduced at half-time, took the game by the scruff of the neck to show what a talent he is for Albion, making yards with virtually every touch of the ball.
The final try of the game, meanwhile, was a Denton family special. Isaac ran the length of the pitch and was stopped just short, before his brother Cobi easily scooted over to finish things off at 10-4.
For their efforts, Kyle Horne won the “Opposition Man of the Match” award while Cody Leach won the coaches’ equivalent.
