THE Wessex Plant Hire sidecar championship standings took a hammering at an almost bone dry Brown’s Wood on Saturday where the Yeadon-Guiseley Motor club staged the penultimate event in the series for a small but select entry.

Conditions were almost akin to the Sahara desert. Even the three and four feet deep stream gullies were nigh ón dusty. Sam Yeadon plotted the eighteen section course which featured four steep hillside openers a few metres below the top access path.

The last one in the group was at the top end of the dense wood and climbed and twisted over exposed tree roots. The dryness provided unexpected wheel grip which had the front wheel of the outfit doing its own thing. Luke Golding and Beth Thomas were really on the ball with a stop down in the valley at the fifteenth section. Manx challengers Jack Corlett and Jamie Howe and champions Jon Tuck and Matt Sparkes all incurred a five but Neil and Michael Franks salvaged a three then a couple of fives.

The second lap got the show on the road for Tuck and Sparkes who turned in a splendid three score earned the third place and fifteen points. They headed for the finale at Bracken Rocks on Sunday trailing Corlett and Howe by one point! Mr TRS aka Steve Saunders and daughter Izzy head the Intermediate championship by winning their class. They rode sections thirteen and fourteen for a dab on each lap. Title leaders Oliver Lace and Stephanie Hardman did not start.

Their pre-score total stood at 121 which is now sixteen behind the Saunders total. The Clubman class was low in numbers but hot in battles. Ryan Eamer and Claire Tooth cleaned the entire course on both laps and Robert Head and Harry Martin were also on the same path but a stop in the sixteenth and two dabs in fourteenth killed their hopes. Only two newcomers entered Richard Murphy and passenger Adam Chapman got round on twenty one.
