With the weather getting colder, you might be thinking of putting your heating on to help keep warm.
Keeping the heating on all day and at a high temperature can be incredibly expensive with many households looking for ways to save money on energy bills.
There are a few things you can do to save money when it comes to heating your home rather than overusing your central heating.
Which? has revealed the one item you can put behind your radiator to maximise the heat.
The one thing you can put behind your radiator to maximise its heat
Which? has said that if you place radiator foil behind your radiator, it will help to make your house feel much warmer.
In a TikTok posted to its account, Which? shared: “Install foil behind your radiators to maximise the heat it gives off, especially if it’s on an external wall.
“You can pick up specialist radiator foil pretty cheaply.”
Some people will reach for tin foil as a lower cost alternative to buying radiator foil but using standard kitchen tin foil is not recommended, as it can be a fire hazard.
Kitchen foil is also much more flimsy and lacks the proper insulation backing you need for the trick to be effective.
You can buy reflective radiator foil from shops like B&Q for £9.89.
Other radiator tips and tricks
In the video, Which? shared a few other tips you can do to maximise the heat from your radiator.
A simple tip is just to dust and clean them.
Which? said: “A dusty radiator is less efficient at warming up your space and this type of cleaning is very satisfying.”
You should also move any large items of furniture away from your radiators like your sofa.
Which? says you should leave at least a one-foot gap between your radiator and any furniture if possible.

Which? added: “You don’t want air in your radiators.
“You want them to be full of hot water.”
