SETTLE 2nd XI lie in sixth spot in Westmorland Two after a convincing away win against Milnthorpe firsts.

The Cumbrians started strongly with their fast bowlers tying down the openers until James Snowden broke loose with 56 in 72 balls. Paul Dockerty’s 22 was followed by 49 from skipper Elliot Marklew and 45 at a run a ball by Nick Cokell.

The total of 195-7 looked promising but the hosts were very much in contention at 78 with just two down. John Tarbox, Richard Bradley and Gus Ogden took a couple of wickets each before Cokell struck with his first ball. He went on to take 3-8 in a six-over spell that enhanced his all-rounder status and ended Milnthorpe's resistance. The 62-run margin of defeat was unexpected but their last five wickets fell for just 31 runs.

A strong third team had Ingleton seconds in trouble at Marshfield with three wickets for Harvey Green and two apiece for Sam Walker and Lewis Holgate. Andrew Earnshaw made 48 of the visitors’ total of 61 in 25 overs. Snowden (35) then carried on where he left off with the second team, as Settle completed the win in ten overs, with a wicket each for Earnshaw and Chris Hudson.

A hectic schedule is in prospect this weekend with Settle first team on the road to Fulwood & Broughton CC in the NPL on Saturday, followed next day by a 40-over cup tie at Mawdesley.

But there is worse in store for Penrith, who are at Marshfield on Friday night to face the 2nd XI in the T20 cup, only to trail back next day for a league match.

The 3rd XI entertain Sedgwick on Sunday.
