Litter problem at churchyard

I am not familiar with the cemetery in Allum Lane, but the recent controversy surrounding it prompts me to point out the disgraceful appearance of St Botolph's Churchyard in Shenleybury.

Several of my loved ones are resting there and I have spent hours cleaning the rubbish from the perimeter of the area. It would appear that certain visitors are of the opinion that it is not necessary to use the bin provided and toss all their discarded plastic flowers, wreaths, carrier bags, bin liners, flower pots etc over the edge. Some even go to the trouble of filling bags with the rubbish and then lob them over.

I am a regular visitor to the churchyard and am deeply saddened by its run down appearance. Although it should not be necessary, perhaps the powers that be could erect more notices to replace the current dilapidated ones.

Cecilia Boville,
