RETIREMENT home specialists McCarthy and Stone has started work on its new development in Settle.

The Wickets - so named because of its close proximity to Settle Cricket Club - is underway, after planning permission for 22 homes was given by Craven District Council earlier this year.

The developer, which also has apartments in Skipton, says interest in the apartments, off Kirkgate and aimed at the over 60s, is expected to be high.

Liz Green, regional sales and marketing director for the North East, said: "The Wickets has already received significant interest from local retirees thanks to its picturesque setting and enviable location within reach of a range of fantastic amenities. Settle is a great place for retirees to enjoy an active, independent lifestyle as there’s so much to see and do, and more or less everything is within walking distance and easily accessible. There is also a great sense of community, with lots of social events, a busy marketplace, and a close-knit neighbourly feel.”

McCarthy and Stone aims to provide independent living, within a safe and secure environment. Its homes offer people the opportunity for companionship - or privacy - when needed.

The Wickets will include a communal lounge, landscaped gardens and guest suite for friends and family. There will also be a house manager, a secure entrance system and 24 hour emergency call points.
