A TASTE of metropolitan-style dining comes to the Skipton area in September when two friends host their first 'supper club'.
Janet Knowles and Jo Craven are opening up Janet's home to diners who want to try the novel eating experience that has been fashionable in London and the south for some years.
Eight 'supper club' guests will meet at Janet's Embsay house to sample the pair's cooking skills - and hopefully generate some sparkling conversation as well.
Janet explains: "It's a great idea. Guests have probably not met before, which should lead to lead to some interesting talk. And hopefully they will love the food as well. Jo and myself wanted to try out a supper club and the nearest one we could find was in Halifax.
"We went along and absolutely loved it - we met some really nice people and the meal was excellent. So we thought we'd try the idea out in our area.
"We both love cooking, so it's a chance for us to hone our culinary skills - and eight seems to be the right number of guests for good conversation!"
Janet and Jo intend the event to be the first of many, and have named their enterprise 'Craven Kitchen', the most appropriate one given Jo's surname, they say!
And Janet, who is an administrator at Robin J Clarkson's Embsay garage, adds: "I worked briefly in hotel kitchens in the French Alps in my early 20s, but neither myself or Jo have much professional experience as such. What we do have is the skill and desire to try out new ideas and the passion about cooking to make it work."
Their guests will pay £20 per person for the four course club meal, which is on Saturday, September 6, starting at 7pm. Being a supper club, booking is obviously essential and diners can take their own wine along.
Janet and Jo's menu is: Fig, Parma ham and mozzarella salad; iced tomato consommé; stuffed pork en croute with a cream and mustard sauce, served with fondant potato, broccoli spears and Vichy carrots; lemon tiramisu; coffee.
And for the vegetarians: Fig and blue cheese salad with honeyed walnuts; iced tomato consommé; mushroom mille feuille with a cream and mustard sauce, served with fondant potato, broccoli spears and Vichy carrots; lemon tiramisu; coffee.
