JOHN Stephenson, of Bordley, achieved a well-deserved championship win at Gisburn Auction Mart's anniversary cull show.
His pure homebred Blue cow sold at 212 p/kg to Andrew Atkinson.
The reserve championship went to John Mellin and Clare Cropper, of Long Preston, for their Blue cow, which sold at 197 p/kg to Ralph Pearson Wholesale Butchers.
The Continental class first and third went to T and JM Sedgwick, of Burton-in-Lonsdale, for their Limousins and second place was secured to GB and G Grange & Son, Beamsley.
There were 236 calves forward for the anniversary calf show judged by Roger Long.
Joe Pemberton, of Cow Hill, Grimsargh, was awarded the champion rosette with a British Blue heifer out of a Brown Swiss cow, which sold for the day’s top price of £630 to Vickers and Richardson, Scarborough.
The reserve champion, a British Blue bull calf from T W Holden and Son, Chaigley, sold for £508 to the judge. This price was matched by David and Pauline Newbould, Newsholme, who sold their third-placed bull to Neil Headley, of York.
The 47 Blue bulls averaged £389 with half of them selling in excess of £400 and the 45 Blue heifers averaged £349 for all quality.
The third-placed Blue heifer was donated by Pauline Anderton to be sold in aid of The Brain Tumour Trust and went on to sell for £402.
Champion in the anniversary dairy cattle and Cogent pedigree show was a newly-calved heifer from Colin Singleton, of Goosnargh. Being 14 days calved and giving 34 litres, she sold to J and JD Graves for £1,750. This is the second time since 2011 J and M Singleton and Sons have received the Ribblesdale Breeders’ Trophy.
Reserve champion went to a Golden Oaks Alexander pedigree heifer from WA and A Booth, of Feizor. Giving 28 litres, she fell to Philip Mason for £1,650.
