LAST week's Craven Curiosities was a little easier than usual - it was part of a pestle and mortar set, and was correctly identified by Anne Lindsay of Steeton; Brenda Wood, from Rathmell, and regular guesser, David Heather from Settle. Experts at Craven Museum and Gallery tell us this particular pestle was used by dispensing and other chemists. It has a white ceramic head, which is stained on one side, and a turned wooden handle. It is 191mm long. All items featured in this column can be viewed at the Craven District Council-run museum which is located at Skipton Town Hall. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Meanwhile, we are inviting guesses about this week’s mystery object. Suggestions can be emailed to news@cravenherald.co.uk, to arrive no later than noon on Monday.
