Ingleton Gala is back on track after an appeal for new committee members brought a huge response.

The emergency meeting brought forward an enthusiastic group of people of all ages in the district who are determined to keep the gala going.

Chairman of the new committee Debby Kuhlmann said the group was meeting again on Friday when ideas would be put together for this year's gala on July 19.

"We don't have a great deal of time, but we intend to have regular meetings to make sure the event is a success. We have quite a few ideas, but still hope to retain the parade which the children love," said Mrs Kuhlmann.

As well as forming a new committee, many of the people who attended last week's meeting have pledged help with the numerous tasks associated with the event.

Carl Lis, chairman of Ingleton Rural Community Association, said he was delighted the event was not going to fold.

"I think the main message is that, once again, the strength of the community of Ingleton has come up trumps.

"The meeting held at the community centre in Ingleton was attended by more than 20 people, all of whom were deeply concerned about the disappearance of the gala from the annual calendar of Ingleton community life.

"We now have a full committee of local people who are prepared to carry on with the good work that the previous committee did so well for so many years," said Coun Lis.
