Talented brass and percussion players from eight to 18 are invited to join the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain for a day.

The free open day in North Craven will feature a master class by a leading brass or percussionist, the chance to hear the 80-strong band rehearse and an opportunity to listen to its solo competition and quiz the band’s artistic director, Bramwell Tovey.

The young musicians will also have the opportunity to audition for the band or its younger sibling, the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.

Tutors include cornetists Phillip McCann and Mark Wilkinson, soprano Alan Wycherley, euphonium player Glyn Williams, tuba player Phil Goodwin and percussionist Simone Rebello.

The open day will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at Giggleswick School.

Co-ordinator Martin Armstrong said: “We would encourage any young and talented brass or percussion player to come along. The day will see youngsters being coached by some of the UK’s finest brass and percussion players and it will inspire.”

The event runs from 10am and 4pm and includes lunch. Email armstrong_martin007 @hotmail.com or visit nybbgb.com for information.
