SKIPTON: Art in the Pen returns to Skipton Auction Mart next weekend.

The cow and sheep pens of the cattle mart will be transformed into mini galleries, featuring sculptures, photography, ceramics, jewellery, pen and ink, wood, recycled materials, textiles, print, glass, etchings, watercolours and paintings.

The event will be open from 10am to 4pm next Saturday and Sunday and admission is £2 (free for children under 16). For more information, visit artinthepen.org.uk.

* Striking views of the Yorkshire Dales are the focus of the current exhibition, Working the View, at Craven Museum and Gallery.

Photographer Mark Butler and his writer sister Sarah have recorded the sights and words of a range of people who “work the view”, including estate workers, farmers, drystone wallers and those who work to protect the landscape.

The exhibition features 42 photographs and extracts from the interviews, and will run until Monday, September 23.

* A summer drama workshop, run by Skipton’s Bad Wolf Theatre Company and Angel Performance Arts, will culminate with a showcase performance at the Mart Theatre tomorrow (Friday).

This year’s theme is Myths and Monsters and students have been learning about stage make-up, stage combat and script writing.

SETTLE: Yorkshire’s past is brought to life through stories, objects and archives at a new exhibition being staged at The Folly.

Family Stories: 150 Years of Discovery is being held in conjunction with the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The exhibition focuses on the stories of three Craven families: the Listers of Gisburn and Malham Tarn, the Bollands of Settle and the Wilsons of Eshton.

The exhibition will run until November 3.

* Photographer Paul Rogers ponders on the “romance, ritual and intrigue of washing lines, wardrobes and clothes hanging” at an exhibition at The Gallery on the Green.

“Speculations on Clothes Hanging” runs until September 12.

* The Lime Gallery at The Courtyard is hosting an exhibition inspired by the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales and South Lakeland Fells.

Called Summer Dales, it includes landscape paintings by Nigel Overton, photographs by Ross Brown, interpretations of topography and geology by Jane Rushton, etchings by Tim Slatter, ceramics by Sue Ure and wildlife papercuts by Amy Williams.

* Settle Music will present an evening of vocals, ukuleles, double bass and stomping on Saturday.

The event – Dead Man’s Uke – will be staged at the town’s Poppies Tearoom, on Kirkgate, at 7.30pm.

This year’s photo trail will be launched tomorrow (Friday) and will run until Thursday, August 22, with pictures being displayed in local shop windows.

A map showing participating venues will be available from the tourist information centre and some shops along the route.

The following week the photographs will be gathered together and displayed in Clapham Village Hall over the Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday to Monday). The exhibition will be open from 11am to 5pm each day.

ARNCLIFFE: Holy Moly and the Crackers will entertain in Amerdale Hall on Saturday.

The event starts at 8pm and tickets cost £10.

GISBURN: Saxophone and piano jazz duo Ian Millar and Dominic Spencer will be in action at Gisburn Festival Hall tomorrow (Friday). The two men have been performing together for a number of years, playing melodic improvisations on jazz standards and originals compositions.

GRASSINGTON: Watercolour artist Michael Curran is staging a summer exhibition in the town hall. His paintings can be viewed in the ladies room between 11am and 5pm until Sunday.

His daughter, Jenny, is also displaying some of her studies from the world of dance.
