Skipton Building Society Camerata will perform ten anniversary concerts in Skipton – one a month for each year of the orchestra’s life.

The first concert takes place at Skipton Girls’ High School on Wednesday and features Mozart’s Piano and Wind Quintet in E Flat, together with a selection of Teleman trio sonatas performed by Matthew Jones (oboe), Colin Blainey (clarinet), Lucy Keyes (bassoon), Jonathon Harris (horn) and Harvey Davies (piano).

Ben Crick, the orchestra’s artistic director, said: “Chamber music was originally performed informally in a living room, so we thought it would be interesting to try to imitate this to some extent rather than play in the traditional concert hall style.

“The venue will be set out with cafe-style seating so that the musicians are in the middle of the space surrounded by the audience, bringing them close to the players and immediately involved with the music.

“For our first concert in the series we have chosen as the main work a quintet written in 1784 by Mozart, who described it to his father as being ‘the best thing I have ever written’. Marvellous music in an informal setting will get our anniversary chamber music series off to a flying start.”

The performances will take place at Skipton Girls’ High School on the second Wednesday of the month until December, with no concert in August. They will start at 7.30pm and tickets priced at £6 will be sold on the door.

l The Camerata will be performing at Skipton Castle next Saturday, February 15, at 7.30pm.

The orchestra will be joined by The Clothworkers Consort of Leeds for a Night with Vivaldi. The programme features the Four Seasons and Gloria and tickets, priced £12, are available from the box office 01756 791656 or online at skiptoncamerata.com
