Steeton Male Voice Choir treasurer Alan Howell has retired after 14 years.

To mark his long service, he was presented with a commemorative certificate by choir president Len Wilson.

New treasurer is John Dowlan, whose previous role as baritone representative to the committee is taken over by Steve Parsons.

Addressing the annual general meeting Alan Clark, now in his 19th year as musical director, said the high points of 2013 included winning Choir Rocks in Leeds, a tour of Devon and Cornwall and a busy concert programme.

“We sung at 28 venues using 45 different songs, five of which were brand new to us and another seven were brought back from the archives. We hope that we shall be able to look back at 2014 in 12 months’ time with pride and satisfaction at a year well done.”

Mr Clark paid tribute to accompanist Anne Mott, who is due to retire in June and will be replaced by Pat Jones.

“I, for one, can never thank Anne enough for her hard work and support.”

Chairman David Borley said the choir was on an upward improving trend, with new members adding a different dimension.
