SKIPTON: An icy chill will fall over Mart Theatre this weekend as senior students of the locally-based Bad Wolf Theatre Company present The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The piece will be performed on Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 1pm. Tickets are £8 for adults, £6 for children or £24 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

The concert - at Skipton Town Hall - is part of the orchestra’s tenth anniversary celebrations and promises to be a spectacular musical experience.

It is designed to highlight the ins and outs of cycling and will run until September 20.

lTo celebrate the Tour de France, the town’s Mill Bridge Gallery is hosting an exhibition of photographs and sculptural work celebrating both the sport and the beautiful Dales countryside.

The exhibition will run throughout July.

lGrassington Players are back on the road – and will be in action at St Andrew’s Church on Wednesday.

The touring thespians will perform some of Alan Bennett’s most popular Talking Heads monologues alongside some favourites from the Players’ own playwright Keith Bromley.

Tickets are £5 on the door.

Other show dates are: Pateley Bridge Playhouse, next Thursday, July 24 and The Octagon, Grassington, on Thursday, July 31. All start at 7.30pm.

SETTLE: The Folly is staging an exhibition called War Beckons, which focuses on the early stages of the war and the effects it had on the district.

Visitors can learn about the recruitment of volunteers and the commandeering of local horses following the outbreak of war, as well some of the lesser-known stories.

And running alongside it is another exhibition, Journeys Through a Family Archive, which explores the story of the Riley family and their many involvements in the life of Settle and district over nearly 100 years.

Both exhibitions run until November 2.

lPhotographer Simon Whalley is exhibiting photographs from his Spirit of the Line book at the Gallery on the Green.

The exhibition - which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the saving of the Settle-Carlisle Railway Line - explores how the line fits into the countryside and whether people can live in harmony with the landscape.

It will run until Saturday, August 30.

BARNOLDSWICK: Barnoldswick Brass Band will hold an open rehearsal evening on Monday.

The evening, which begins at 7pm, will be held at St Joseph’s Community Centre, on Bolland Street, Barnoldswick.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and the leader of the Pendle Council, Councillor Joe Cooney, have been invited to attend.

CARLETON: The Monday Club Ladies Choir will hold its summer concert on Saturday.

It will be staged in the village hall and will include a variety of songs including chart hits, show songs, hymns, and songs from the First World War.

The programme will also include an acoustic set by the village’s rock band.

EARBY: A big band and family day will be staged at the White Lion on Saturday.

The event - which starts at midday - will feature, among others, Dark Horse, Brass Neck, Strange Love, Dirty Suns, Cert 21, Tom Scothern, Vicky and the Big Combo, Hobo Chic and Ash Rebanks.

Donations are invited towards the New Road Community Centre.

GRASSINGTON: Grassington Players will start their rehearsals for Oh What a Lovely War! in Grassington Town Hall on Monday.

They still need a few more men who can sing and move. The show will be staged on October 16, 17 and 18 and anyone interested in taking part should ring Mary Wilkinson on 01756 752740.

INGLETON: Ingleton Library will host a creative photographic workshop on Saturday as part of the Creative Residencies Artists into Libraries project and the village gala.

It will be led by Leeds-based freelance photographer Rebecca Heim, who specialises in photo documentary, and will run from 10am to 3pm.

She will perform with the choir for the last time at the Pennington’s Octagon at 7.30pm.

SILSDEN: This year’s Proms on the Farm takes place at Sycamore Farm, Brunthwaite, on Saturday.

The Big Bang starts the evening at 7.15pm with music from the 1960s and then the Sultans of Swing will play music from the Glenn Miller era as well as jive and rock and roll.

The Skelmanthorpe Brass Band will perform Last Night of the Proms favourites, with soloist Sarah Halstead.

Proceeds will be shared between Manorlands Hospice and Silsden Methodist Church. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased from Twiggs Newsagents, Kirkgate, or on the gate.
