SKIPTON: Brother and sister Jonathan and Charlotte Crossley will perform at a musical evening at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Saturday.

They will entertain with a mixture of original and well-known songs from a variety of genres (folk, blues, easy listening and classical), accompanied by a cornucopia of instruments.

The concert - which starts at 7pm - is to raise money for MHA’s Musical Therapy Appeal for people with Alzheimer’s and tickets on the door are £5 each or £12 for a family.

lThere are just two days left to view an exhibition by Margaret Hockney - older sister of world-renowned artist David Hockney - at the town’s Mill Bridge Gallery.

Scannergraphs: A Retrospective is the result of her experimentation with a flatbed scanner as an artistic medium.

The exhibition runs until Saturday.

lGuitarist and vocalist Rick Mills will perform at the White Rose Club on Saturday at 8.30pm.

SETTLE: Victoria Hall will stage a fundraising gig tomorrow.

Jay Diggins, Plumhall and Friends will perform for free, with donations invited on exit.

The money raised will go towards the hall’s running costs.

As well as being a songwriter, Jay is a master of guitar, harmonica, drums, bass and organ while Plumhall - Michelle Plum and husband Nick Hall - are renowned for their musicianship, incisive songwriting and stirring harmonies.

lThe Folly is staging an exhibition called War Beckons, which focuses on the early stages of the war and the effects it had on the district.

Visitors can learn about the recruitment of volunteers and the commandeering of local horses following the outbreak of war, as well as some of the lesser-known stories, such as the Belgian refugees who were brought to Settle.

It will give residents and visitors a greater understanding of the sacrifices that were made by the people of North Craven throughout the war.

Running alongside is another exhibition, Journeys Through a Family Archive, which explores the story of the Riley family and their many involvements in the life of Settle and district over nearly 100 years.

Both exhibitions run until November 2.

lSettle wildlife photographers Tony and Carol Dilger are showing their work at the town’s Gallery on the Green, housed in a former telephone box.

The exhibition, Out of Africa and into the Dales, features wildlife pictures shot during safaris in South Africa and nearer to home, in the Dales.

It follows successful open days with North Yorkshire Open Studios and Grassington Festival, where many people requested the opportunity to return to view both the artwork and her impressive, contemporary studio.

There will be a large range of original paintings on sale including oils, watercolours and acrylics.

BARNOLDSWICK: A Big Soul Night Out will be staged at Rolls Royce Leisure Centre tomorrow.

DJs Roman, Shaun Fitton and Garry Place will play original vinyls featuring Northern Soul from 8pm to 1am and admission is £5 on the door.

BRADLEY: The Library Theatre touring company will present a musical version of Wind in the Willows in the village hall next Sunday, October 5. The performance starts at 2.30pm.

GIGGLESWICK: The film Belle will be screened at the Richard Whiteley Theatre as part of the Community Cinema season.

It is about Dido Belle, the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy officer, who is brought to England by her father and left in the care of his uncle, Lord Mansfield, the Lord Chief Justice, at his Kenwood House estates.

The screening will take place at 3.30pm next Sunday, October 5.

GRASSINGTON: The award-winning Craven-based Jay Walkers Theatre Company will start its autumn tour in Grassington.

It will perform two one-act plays under the heading, A Comedy Double Act, at the Octagon Theatre tomorrow night.

The evening will start with Last Tango in Little Grimley, which centres around a failing amateur drama group facing financial ruin and its daredevil plan to either survive, and will be followed by Blind Date, featuring a middle-aged couple who meet after responding to adverts in a dating magazine.

There will be further performances at Cononley Village Institute on Saturday, Gargrave Village Hall next Friday, October 3, and Old Pool Bank Village Hall, Pool-in-Wharfedale, next Saturday, October 4.
