SKIPTON Town Hall kicks off the World Cup with a football play for all the family, followed a week later by one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies.

As the World Cup kicks off, the town hall will celebrate with two performances of Keepy Uppy, at 10.30am and 1.30pm this Saturday.

The production from Tutti Frutti, suitable for children aged three and over, tells a tale of love, devotion and family.

The story follows Joey, who can turn anywhere into a make believe pitch, from scoring goals in his breakfast cereal to imaginary match commentating on his way to school.

His enthusiasm is shared equally by his mum - the best teammate he could ever have. She stands on the sidelines cheering him on, giving him training tips and teaching him new tricks.

Life is busy for Joey and mum, but today nothing can get in their way as the big day arrives; the cup final and a chance for Joey to score a winning goal.

Danielle Daglan, programming and venue development manager at Craven District Council, said: “This is a great way to celebrate the joy of the beautiful game – but it’s ideal for families whether they love football or not.

“This production is a real visual treat that will fire children’s imagination from kick off to the final whistle. It combines popping rhymes with fab footie moves and toe tapping live music.”

Then at 7pm on Saturday, June 23, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s popular comedy of love and intrigue, magic and mayhem, will be brought to life by Quantum Theatre at Skipton Town Hall.

Set on a night when fairies are abroad and nothing is as it seems, four young, unsuspecting lovers become entangled in their magical affray, and soon no mortals are safe in the bewitching woods outside Athens.

Danielle added: “This is one of Shakespeare’s most hilarious and magical plays – it’s a great introduction to the Bard for children and the production is designed to appeal to the whole family.

“This is our fourth visit from Quantum Theatre, following on from the sold-out success of A Christmas Carol. We’re sure this will be very popular too, so come along and be enchanted.”

Quantum Theatre was founded over 25 years ago by Michael Whitmore and Jessica Selous to produce high quality, accessible and entertaining new work, adaptations of classic texts and Shakespeare plays for theatres and outdoor venues across the UK.

Tickets for Keepy Uppy and A Midsummer Night’s Dream cost £7.50 per person and are available online at cravendc.gov.uk/skipton-town-hall, from the box office in Skipton Town Hall or by ringing 01756 792809.
