A CRITICALLY acclaimed jazz singer from Kildwick who released a new album in the spring will perform in Saltaire at the end of the summer.

Clare Teal is presenting her latest work, called Twelve O'Clock Tales.

This repertoire explores timeless classics penned by the legendary musical storytellers of the last 100 years, and celebrates the giants of the great American and British song books through to the work of more contemporary writers.

Songs include Sans Souci, Secret Love, Feeling Good, Lush Life, It Might As Well Be Spring, and Wild Is The Wind.

Clare specialises in creating a melting pot of styles and genres, all sung in her inimitable style.

She says her mission is to bring big band and swing to music lovers everywhere, and to demonstrate that this genre is ever-evolving and still relevant in today’s world.

Alongside her own weekly two-hour live show on BBC Radio 2, she regularly performs across the UK, and internationally, with either her pianist, trio, mini big band or Hollywood orchestra.

Other highlights of Clare’s live work include collaborating with Sir Van Morrison on his album – Duets: Reworking the Catalogue, opening twice for Liza Minnelli at Kenwood House and the Royal Festival Hall, singing with the BBC Big Band at Proms in the Park, and headlining the Bourbon Street Tent at Glastonbury Festival.

She won British Jazz Singer of the year in 2005, 2007 and 2015, and BBC Jazz Singer of the Year in 2006.

Clare was awarded Arts & Entertainment Personality of the Year in the 2004 & 2011 Yorkshire Awards, a Gold Badge by British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors in 2011 and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Music by the University of Wolverhampton in 2015.

To support her latest release, which is her 15th album, Clare has been touring with Twelve O’Clock Tales during 2016, accompanied by world-class trumpeter and composer Guy Barker.

The inaugural concert was at Bridgewater Hall with the Hallé at the end of April.

On September 10 Clare will play in Salts Mill at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £18 to £20. Visit saltairefestival.co.uk to book tickets.
