THE VICAR Of Dibley is coming to a new parish in Sutton.

The popular TV sitcom will be brought to the stage by Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company on September 9 and 10.

The play is based on four episodes of the comedy about a sleepy village forced to cope with the arrival of its first female vicar.

The Rev Geraldine initially faces hostility from the traditional-minded villagers but eventually charms them into submission.

Green Hut’s production follows the group’s successful stagings of other TV comedies like ‘Allo ‘Allo and Are You Being Served.

The Vicar Of Dibley was written by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer and was adapted for performance by an amateur group by Ian Gower and Paul Carpenter.

Sutton have gained special permission to use the script, which begins with the effervescent Geraldine’s shock arrival in the village, her triumphant first church service, and a special ceremony to bless the animals.

The second act follows the touching and hilarious wedding of Hugo, one of the most eligible but boring bachelors in Britain, and dippy verger Alice.

The Vicar Of Dibley will be staged in Sutton Village Hall on September 9 and 10 from 7.15pm. Tickets cost £9 by calling 01535 632289.
