SKIPTON MUSIC will be looking to build on the success of last season with a "high calibre" of chamber music concerts in 2017/18.

Bunty Leder, concerts secretary for Skipton Music, said: "Last season for Skipton Music was without a doubt one of the best seasons in my 26 years as concert secretary.

"The standard of music was so high that the audience were thrilled and members of our long-standing committee were overjoyed."

Bunty said this season's series of concerts from a variety of chamber music ensembles, many of which are international, are "all very high calibre".

"Our audience has very high expectations because Skipton Music, along with Ilkley Concert Club, are two of the most prestigious music societies in the country."

Bunty is also excited that Skipton Music will be able to utilise the new raked seating in Skipton Town Hall.

"It should be advantageous to us that the new seating with its marvellous sight lines and excellent acoustics in the town hall should make concert going a treat this season."

Skipton Music's 2017/18 season will open at the town hall on Tuesday, October 17, with a performance by the highly-acclaimed Doric String Quartet.

The string quartet, who feature Alex Redington and Jonathan Stone on violin, Hélène Clément on viola and John Myerscough on cello, regularly perform in leading concert halls throughout Europe and have received enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics across the globe.

The programme for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, features Mendelssohn's Quartet in E flat, Op. 12, Thomas Ades' The Four Quarters and Hadyn's String Quartet Op. 20, No.5.

In November, Trio Con Brio will come from Copenhagen, Denmark, to perform for Skipton Music's audiences.

Then in the run up to Christmas, London-based ensemble Joglaresa will take to the stage at Skipton Town Hall.

The second half of Skipton Music's season will start in the new year with a performance by Boxwood and Brass, specialists in late 18th and early 19th century wind music, in January.

In February, pianist Kathryn Stott will return to her Skipton roots to celebrate her 60th birthday with a concert at Skipton Town Hall.

The season will then close on March 27, 2018, with a concert by the award-winning Pelléas Ensemble.
