AN intrepid New Zealander’s film of his nine-month solo overland journey from London to Malaysia is to be shown in Gargrave tomorrow.

Jon Beardmore set off from London in 'Boris', a 20-year old Toyota Land Cruiser in 2013, and crossed Central Asia and then China before arriving in Malaysia. His return journey went via India and Pakistan.

On his journey, he had one burning question in mind: “Is Central Asia as dangerous as we are led to believe?

He was also driven by a desire to return to Afghanistan to play cricket.

The film is described as “a high energy masterpiece of adventure, framing the land, the man and the land cruiser that brought them together.

The film will show the highs and lows of overlanding, the rich array of people and places and little bit of cricket.

Jon will introduce his film – The Great Game Movie – and answer questions afterwards in Gargrave Village Hall.

Doors open at 7pm and the film will start at 7.30pm.

Entry costs £5 (under 16s free) and will be in aid of the Afghan Connection charity, which supports education and cricket in Afghanistan.

Seating will be café-style; and those attending should bring their own refreshments.
