The Slater Marchant Craven Challenge Cup and the Skipton Building Society Norman Pratt Trophy matches provided no major upsets although four games went into extra time before being settled, writes David Town.

Second Division Horton entertained Premier League leaders Waddington giving an excellent account of themselves before succumbing in extra time.

Renowned cup fighters Ingleton hit five without reply against a weakened Gargrave side, Chris Bibby leading the way with a hat-trick.

Another five goal scoreline saw Barnoldswick Town see off Rolls Royce in the replay and the day belonged to Dave Greenwood who hit all five for Embsay in their 5-2 win against their Westmoreland visitors Sedbergh Wanderers.

The West Craven derby played at Sough Park went into extra time with Pendle Renegades edging their namesakes Athletic by 7-6.

Settle United put their poor league form behind them to beat Skipton Town 3-1, while the other Skipton side LMS lost to their visitors Kelbrook 3-1.

Another East Lancashire outfit Colne United needed extra time to see off North Lancashire outfit Bentham 3-2, while Grassington United won the all Premier clash with Cononley by 2-0.

In the Norman Pratt Trophy for reserve teams; Gargrave demolished Skipton Town in a second half onslaught with Ben Brown claiming five goals in the 9-1 victory.

Last year's beaten finalists Rimington won a tight game at Rolls Royce by 3-1 and Grassington United required extra time at Bentham to win by 4-2.

Bradley had a 4-2 home win against Barnoldswick Barons; whilst Cononley had a day they would like to forget, going down 5-1 to Carleton, having two players sent off.

Craven Challenge Cup

Horton FC 2 Waddington FC 5 AET

This was a magnificent effort by Horton against Premier leaders Waddington. A typical David and Goliath cup tie, full of good football and played in an excellent sporting manner.

The Horton side gave their best, never allowing Waddington to settle despite going behind to a disputed penalty converted by Robert Lloyd on five minutes.

Undeterred, the home team equalised within five minutes with a smart Mark Harris header and he gave his side the lead two minutes later when he converted a penalty.

Cokell's cross shot hit the post on the half hour before Waddington began to apply pressure on the home goal missing some gilt edge chances before Horton Man-of-the-Match Neil Lodge cleared off the line ensuring his side had a 2-1 lead at the break. The game remained very even swinging from end to end before Waddington's outstanding player Martin Kane scored a cracking goal from 25 yards giving Gavin White in the Horton goal no chance.

From this point on, Horton defended well and fully deserved the tie to go to extra time, however understandably they tired and Waddington took advantage to score three goals through Fletcher, Snowden and Lloyd.

Ingleton FC 5 Gargrave AFC 0

As the score line suggests, Ingleton were too strong for a Gargrave side missing key players.

Gargrave were under pressure from the start, falling behind after five minutes.

They gradually increased their involvement in the game, hitting the woodwork on two occasions, but it was the home team who scored two further goals for a comfortable 3-0 lead at the half-time whistle.

Ingleton had strength in every department, scoring a fourth goal before being reduced to ten men when Darren Blacow was shown the red card, yet his side still had sufficient resources to score a fifth.

Chris Bibby scored a hat-trick and Jonathan Boadle a brace.

Embsay FC 5 Sedbergh Wanderers FC 2

The individual performance of the day came from Dave Greenwood, who scored all five goals for Embsay.

Sedbergh took an early lead through Elliot Oxley and this prompted the home team into action with Greenwood scoring the first of his goals.

He soon followed with his second and as the break approached the visitors went close to equalising.

Up the slope in the second half Embsay's change of shirt enhanced their play and as Embsay took charge Greenwood soon completed his hat-trick, his fourth goal coming courtesy of a long up field clearance when he out paced the defence to volley home from 18 yards leaving the Sedbergh side disheartened.

His excellent afternoon's work was completed when he struck home the fifth, but Sedbergh never relented and former Craven Minor Elliot Began scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Barnoldswick Town FC Reserves 5 Rolls Royce FC 0 Rolls were never in this replay after the euphoria of the first game when they should have taken advantage of a Town off day. Town dominated this game from start to finish with the result never in doubt.

Colne United 3 Bentham FC 2 AET

It wasn't the best of matches between two very evenly matched sides, who struggled to have any rhythm. Colne took an early second half lead with Bentham drawing level through James Earnshaw to take the tie into extra time.

The home team took a two goal lead before Bentham substitute Kieran Spencer scored a second, good defending denying them an equaliser. John Bailey, Stuart Mulligan and Danny Cassidy were on target for United.

Grassington United FC 2 Cononley Sports Club 0

In a sporting and evenly contested match Grassington led with an early goal from Jan Ordoba, whose constant probing made life difficult for Cononley, who were always chasing the game. It was Grassington's late goal through Ordoba that sealed the victory.

Settle United AFC 3 Skipton Town FC 1

On a perfect pitch for football, the teams struggled to have a shot on target in the first half, but there was a big improvement in the second half from both sides made for a better game. Kevin Newhouse put Settle in front and David Worthington increased their lead before Sean Devlin pulled a goal back for Town. Kevin Newhouse once again found the net to score the third goal for the home victory.

NORMAN PRATT TROPHY

Skipton Town FC 1 Gargrave AFC 9 Town went into this match against the holders with a scratched side and did well only 2-1 down at the interval in a remarkably close half.

Two quick goals put Gargrave in the driving seat and they ran out comfortable winners. Oliver Hurst gave Gargrave the lead followed by the first of Ben Brown's five goals.

Simon Clarke pulled a goal back for Town, but the second half was one sided as Gargrave took complete charge, Hurst chipping the keeper from thirty yards which completed his hat-trick. Christian Moon added to the scoresheet along with Brown's four second half goals.

Bentham FC 2 Grassington United FC 4 AET

This game was a credit to both sides, resulting in the comment from referee Ray Akrigg: "This game was a great advert for reserve team football which was played in a hard but sporting manner."

Grassington had the better of the first half scoring through Dale Berry. A head injury to Nick Breckon meant a reshuffle for the visitors, and Bentham took advantage to equalise through Thomas Burns taking the match into extra time.

Substitute Alan Hayward put the Dalesmen in front only for Burns to equalise for Bentham, Dale Berry scored his second and he provided the pass for Christopher Jefferies to seal a 4-2 victory.

Bradley FC 4 Barnoldswick Barons FC 2

Bradley got a welcome win taking an early lead through Ben Dewhirst who went on to complete a hat-trick. Barons scored through Alan Laurie but Bradley took advantage of defensive mistakes to increase their lead. Jason Wright scored his side's second goal but it was too late. Richard Robinson was the other Bradley scorer.

Cononley Sports Club 1 Carleton AFC 5

The home team lost to a lower division side as well as their composure when decisions went against them. Carleton were three up before James Woodward scored Cononley's only goal. The home team tried desperately to reduce the arrears but Carleton scored two further goals as Cononley ended the game with nine men, Robert Slater and Andrew Hudson being dismissed in a game the Cononley side will want to forget.

Rolls Royce FC 1 Rimington FC 3

The beaten finalists from last year Rimington were given a good game by Rolls Royce who have yet to win a game this season. Rimington's first goal was a wonderful strike, matched by Rolls Dale Robinson to level the scores. A far post shot put the visitors back in front, and as Rolls pushed for an equaliser they were caught with a counter attack in the last five minutes, which gave victory to Rimington.

CRAVEN LEAGUE

Hellifield Sports FC 2 Oakworth Reserves 2

In the only Division Three game, Hellifield completely dominated the first half taking the lead when Paul Mounsey scrambled the ball over the line and it was no surprise when substitute Dale Denham made it 2-0 with a powerful shot.

Excellent chances were missed to further increase the lead. Oakworth, against the run of play, scored two quick second half goals, the game resulted in a draw with Hellifield ruing missed chances.
